WelcomeWelcome to Alex Winston Ltd

Alex Winston Ltd is a small company located in Nashville, Tennessee. We started developing applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch in 2008, and have a ton of great new ideas...

... so stay tuned for applications that will blow you away.

UPDATE 8/31/09:

The iData FSK toolkit has been discontinued however a new solution has been developed and made available through our commercial venture Progical Solutions LLC. This particular solution can transmit data through the audio jack at speeds up to 19.2k baud. It aligns very closely with the MFI apis and should provide a much better integrated solution. Please visit the site for more details or to contact us with questions or comments.

UPDATE 4/15/09:

I am planning on attending the 3rd annual BarCampBirmingham to discuss iPhone software and hardware integration. If you have not heard of the event but would like to attend please visit BarCampBirmingham.

BarCampBirmingham is a user generated conference created around an open, participatory workshop-event, with content provided by participants. Those participating choose the session topics for the day and then present to each other. It’s free. It’s fun. It’s a great way to meet the local technology community.
BarCamp is meant to be a conference for the people, by the people. Anyone who attends is asked to participate in some way. That can mean helping to organize the event, presenting a session, or just participating in a session given by others.

UPDATE 4/8/09:

Expanding on the development of the iData toolkit which facilitates serial communication from the iPhone through the audio jack using FSK we have developed the ability to communicate bi-directionally entirely in software WITHOUT jailbreaking your phone. The demonstration below illustrates how two programs could be integrated to communicate with one another in real time.

This example is meant to demonstrate our intricate knowledge of the iPhone platform and it is our hope to provide vendors, third party hardware manufacturers as well as software developers an easy integration bridge for the 2.0 platform as well as the upcoming 3.0 iPhone SDK.  Please visit the services page to learn more about consulting solutions we provide and how we might help you integrate with the iPhone.

We are considering releasing the source code for this demonstration if there is considerable interest from the community.  Please contact us for more details or spread the word about this unique hack.

UPDATE 4/10/09:

This unique demonstration illustrates how to easily integrate the iPhone 2.0 SDK through the headphone jack with an external PS2 keyboard.  Please feel free to contact us with questions or comments you may have.  We would be very interested in talking with software developers as well as hardware manufacturers about how we can integrate your products with the iPhone.

UPDATES:

In addition to the unique uRemote, we are now offering the iData (FSK) toolkit. iData is a revolutionary SDK for the iPhone that allows you to transmit data through an audio cable, or wirelessly with an FM transmitter and decode it on the receiving end to be used in ways we can't even imagine. Our one of a kind decoder is the size of a battery and receives the audio FSK signals, decodes them and outputs them to USB, Serial (RS-232) or PIC.

The toolkit will include:

  • iPhone SDK and example XCode projects.
  • Signal decoder with USB and Serial (RS-232) output capabilities.
iData (FSK)

We will also include an audio FSK decoding library for the iPhone in the near future which will allow the iPhone to receive and decode data from third party devices.
